I have a Garmin nuvi and would like to load an additional map of Cambodia. I have what I believe to be a couple of map files, one named 'gmapsupp.img' and the other named '10012007.img'. Both are supposed to be maps of Cambodia (obtained from different sources, one of them was ). I hardly know where to begin- I've downloaded the Img2gps app and used it a couple of times to load a 256M micro SD card with one of the files. Following some directions I found searching the net, I created a 'Garmin' folder on the card and put the IMG file in the folder (using Img2gps).
When I used Img2gps to load the card I gave the mapset the name 'Cambodia'. When I put the SD card in the nuvi and start it up, it does display some info indicating that it has a map created by GPSMAPPER (I think that's what it says as it flashes by).
But.when I go to change the map in the settings screen, I can see the loaded file, but there is no checkbox by it to allow me to select it. The basemap is there with a checkbox, but the map on the SD card doesn't have a checkbox.
This is the result I get no matter which file I use. As far as I know the map files are unlocked (I'm pretty certain the one from gpsmapsearch.com is, at least). I get no error messages or any prompts to do anything like unlock the map. What am I doing wrong, or what else do I need to do? How can I get the Cambodia map to be active and usable? I was using img2gps as I thought it did the same thing. (??) I'll see if I can download MapSource and get it running. EDIT: Well, I've tried this but to no avail (yet, anyway).
Now got my PC fixed and it took me a looong time to hunt down all the programs that work with windows 7 and vista to produce more releases.
I downloaded Mapsource and installed it. I downloaded the extra tools that the guide said were required. I selected the IMG file and went through the tutorial step by step. It ran and did.something., creating a bunch of files in the directory where the IMG file is. However, when I try to find a file to install in Mapsource, it can't find the file type it needs.
It wants a.gdb,.mps,.gpx or.tcx file, but the files that the MapSet toolkit made are.mdx,.TDB,.mp, and. I have no idea what to do at this point, lol. Well.I'm making some progress. After quite a bit of thrashing around I've managed to upload a map to my SD card, and lo and behold, the map name appears in the settings screen when I go to Settings - Map - Info. It has a checkbox which is selected. I can't seem to figure out how to.use. the map, though.
If I try to change the country through the Where To - Address - Change State/Country, it doesn't appear in the list of countries. (??) How do I access the map?
Do I need to upload it to the Garmin itself instead of the SD card, or.?
