. Ankur 2/14/2014 ' I bought it and returned it the next day. '.
Mark 2/5/2014 ' Lynch gets some abuse for his devout love of meditation but this was an interesting read. He sounds pretty sane throughout and his thoughts on film are pretty great. '.
Jan 2/4/2014 ' Unlike some reviewers, I really think this gave a deep insight (even though the book is small) into how Lynch creates his art and the process he goes through. I've studied and understand the meditative process that he talks about although I'm not an avid meditator myself. Just as he talks about unity connecting everything, my own academic study of psychology has fed into what he discusses (in particular positive psychology, which also examines the empirical evidence to suggest the real and powerful benefits of meditation, which in turn leads to greater understanding of self and levels of happiness).
It just clicks and makes sense for me. How he describes creativity and the clarity needed is excellent.
The proceeds of the book go towards the development of TM oriented schools, in order to encourage children to be the best they can be. It is a wonderful antidote to the negativity sometimes courted by artists which is viewed as necessary to create their art. It is a useful tool for those true artists who wish to gain greater understanding of themselves, in order to create their art to the full of their potential. '. Jenn 1/23/2014 ' This comes with a disclaimer: I'm the publicist for this book. But I enjoyed reading it, as a long time Lynch fan, and it certainly conveyed the appeal of Transcendental Meditation. Also, it's one of the few books on the creative process that I've liked a lot; I generally prefer creating to reading about how to create.
But this was a truly inspiring book by a bonafide genius. '. Brendan 1/16/2014 ' This was a lighter read than anticipated. I expected a book, but instead got a coffee-table brochure on Transcendental Meditation and the films of David Lynch.
Everything in it was nice and thoughtful and sweet, just a little thin. '. Amy 1/6/2014 ' I will have to be honest that I am very biased, David Lynch is one of my heroes. I just love the way his mind works and his positivity. This slim book may be written off by many as propaganda for transcendental meditation or as hokey, but it offers a great look into Lynch's mind and attitude and some really great insights for artists looking for advice on how to harness their creative flow. '. Mira 1/6/2014 ' This book is great.he has the best efficient way of writing and its bloody funny too!
Great insights into film and the process of working on set in a different non bitchy way.some great stories about fellini and kubrick and people like that. '.
Jared Busch ' I read this in the bookstore in about 45 minutes. It's classic Lynch simplicity, and very inspiring. It made me look into meditation as a way of stimulating creativity. I just have to start doing it. '.
Lia ' Stream of conscious writing that is fitting for the topic, but doesn't necessarily make for a great read. Really short though, with very short chapters, which is always a nice break. '. Anna ' Great Book. Inspiring for any artist. David lynch really breaks down the creative process and reveals what we strive for.
'. thegift ' writing about music is like dancing about architecture. '.
Daniel 12/9/2013 ' So inspiring in so many ways. '. Eugene Pustoshkin 12/2/2013 ' Actually, I listened to the audio book narrated by Lynch himself. '. Sarah Wentworth ' David Lynch makes me smile! '. Heather ' I can't help myself, I love listening to David Lynch talk.
This book is like that. '.
Landry 8/20/2012 ' David Lynch is famous for his dystopian visions of our society. In this book he talks about the importance of maintaining a positive, creative attitude through meditation. It's ok if one's characters suffer, but the artist needs to lead a balanced life. '. Chris S 4/27/2012 ' Very relaxing and uplifting book.
Doesn't really tell you much about TM though, but I guess that's not the point. Will definitely revisit this again. '.
Jessica 4/20/2012 ' Very inspiring! It introduced me to transcendental meditation as a practice to uncover inner creativity. '. Shae Cottar 3/20/2012 ' David Lynch draws on 33 years in the practice of meditation and on its influence on the creative consciousness. Fun, easy read. Quick read.and full of great truth. '.
Todd ' Words of wisdom from David Lynch - life, filmmaking, meditation, creativity, the world, his films, etc. It's really insightful into his process of making cinematic art, but also a welcome insight into his skewed look at the world.
The audio version of the book is a must have for any fan. '.
Ma 7/18/2011 ' it's lynch. The guys makes me think. And feel good inside. Yeah, fantastic spiels on creativity and the spirit. Multiple thumbs up. '. Krystle 7/17/2011 ' God awful.

Youtube Catching Big Fish
Read like a stretched out interview on Lynch's hippy dippy beliefs and very little on his creative process (like the cover promised). Shame on me for even bothering. '. matt 6/12/2011 ' flimsly little glimpse into Lynch's guarded mind. '. Dlemunyan 5/17/2011 ' wisdom for any artist, filmmaker or creative person not taught in art schools. '.
Nick 4/27/2011 ' This little tome is high on plugging Transcendental Meditation, low on actual insight into creativity. If poor writing like this is the result of dedicated TM practice, I'll be happy to stay away.
'. Missy 4/23/2011 ' More in this book than I expected, and also less. '. Craig 4/20/2011 ' A really fun and surprisingly enlightening little book that you can read in under an hour (and still get full credit for reading an entire book by David Lynch!). '. sisterimapoet 4/8/2011 ' Lots of little bite sizes pieces, so no great depth to any of the insights. But good to read a bit about Lynch's creative process.
I find reading about how people make what they make as inspiring as any particular techniques they suggest to use. '. Leigh 2/22/2011 ' David Lynch has some interesting observations here, and some pages that read like unedited, banal journal entries. But the book is such a quick read, I didn't mind. '. DwyerTeacher 2/17/2011 ' An odd look into an odd mind.
For those of who don't think this adds anything to Lynch's work, for those of you who don't feel like you understand his films more after reading this, you missed the point of what Lynch does. I for one, loved it. '. Random 2/3/2011 '. My Developer, David Lynch. '.
Lettycia 1/11/2011 ' good one, and interesting parts about wild at heart and others. '. John 1/2/2011 ' I liked finding out random trivia like the fact that Laura Dern and Ben Harper are married and that association gave rise to the title 'INLAND EMPIRE' and I LOVE David Lynch's movies, but this book was just too 'lite' and substanceless. It did inspire me to meditate though! '. Pamela ' Interesting background to his creative process '. David Lynch, the three-time Oscar-nominated director is among the top filmmakers of our era.

David Keith Lynch was born January 20, 1946, in Missoula, Montana, the son of a U.S. Department of Agriculture research scientist, and raised across the Pacific Northwest.
Originally intending to become a graphic artist, Lynch enrolled in the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., in 1963, falling under the sway of expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka and briefly studying in Europe. By the early weeks of 1966, he had relocated to Philadelphia, where he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and began his first experimentation with film.
Today, David Lynch is renowned as a wildly original American filmmaker, an acclaimed writer/director, television producer, photographer, cartoonist, composer, and graphic artist. More than any other contemporary art house filmmaker, he has enjoyed considerable mass acceptance and has helped to redefine commercial tastes, honing a surrealistic aesthetic that is both visionary and deeply personal. David Lynch is famous for writing and directing films that are often a surreal mix of wonder and repugnance. After his first film, Eraserhead (1976), became a cult hit on the midnight movie circuit, Lynch was tapped by Mel Brooks to direct The Elephant Man (1980, the story of Joseph Merrick).
The film was a critical and box-office success and he was nominated for an Oscar. His next film was 1984's unsuccessful version of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel, Dune, but he bounced back with Blue Velvet (1986, starring Dennis Hopper) and firmly established himself as a unique filmmaker who could appeal to more than art house crowds. He has ventured into television, most famously for a Calvin Klein commercial and for the series Twin Peaks (1990).
His other feature films include Wild at Heart (1990, starring Nicolas Cage), Lost Highway (1997) and The Straight Story (1999, starring Sissy Spacek). His 2001 film Mulholland Drive earned him another Oscar nomination for Best Director.
Lynch's enduring interest in meditation dates back to the mid seventies, when he was first initiated into the practice of Transcendental Meditation. Since then, Lynch claims to have meditated twice a day for 20minutes each time, without fail. He advocates its use in bringing peace to the world and in July 2005, he launched the David Lynch Foundation For Consciousness-Based Education and Peace to fund research about TM's positive effects.
Lynch's book, Catching the Big Fish (Tarcher/Penguin 2006), discusses the impact of TM on his life and his creative process. Catching the big fish David Lynch Eraserhead david lynch on eraserhead on the meaning of his films baby meaning.
