Assassins creed 2 was a real bitch of a game to crack even back in the day. The game has a very advanced internet connectivity check (which was later removed).
And Yes for the cracked version to work you have to replace the uplay files, which at the current moment is just not a good idea. A couple of years ago i tried just like you to get the game working and just like you n hesitated because it messes with the uplay files which i need to play legit uplay games. I cannot believe im saying it but if i was you, i would just buy a grey market key on g2a, its so damn cheap and your avoiding a lot of headache.
All of the following ass creed games like normal cracked games.

I bought assassin's creed 2 and played it for a while without uplay. Now I thought that it would be better to play along with uplay and so I downloaded it from the official site. Well, I registered the game with my CD key, and when I selected 'Play', a screen opened up, reading 'Synchronyzing save games with the cloud' and then it shows two options: i) Local savegame ii) Cloud storage/savegame No matter which one I select, there is no save game available in the game when I go to the 'load game' part in Assassin's Creed 2.
